I checked out a printmaking festival today – Crazy artists made huge printed banners using a steamroller…

    1. Great questions! The artist carved a design on plywood and slathered it with ink. A small crew laid it down, ink side up, then carefully placed a blank sheet of fabric on top of the inky carved board. A thick blanket was placed over the fabric, then another blank sheet of plywood was laid on top of the whole thing like a big sandwich. When the roller drove over it the ink & design was squished and pressed hard and thereby transferred onto the fabric. The sandwich process was reversed and the sheet, now decorated, was hung to dry…voila!
